Undergraduate training objectives and ideas
Guiding ideology
According to Nanjing University's goal to create an   integrated, research based, international  world-class university, centered on talent training, we follow the training model and teaching reform idea that  take business training and quality education as a whole, take teaching knowledge and capacity building as a whole, take education and scientific research as a whole  , combine the  knowledge, ability and quality  , to form a distinctive undergraduate teaching mode. We stress the wide caliber training mode, take into account the training of the basic knowledge, expertise, research capabilities, innovation and overall quality, and form our feature of  have both the science foundation and the ability of engineering, combine science and engineering  .  
We persist in the guiding ideology  first-class students, first-class culture, first-class competitiveness  , implement the innovative personnel cultivation mode   dialectical unity knowledge, ability, and quality  , strengthen base of mathematics and physics, emphasize the innovative ability and quality education. We cultivate high-level innovative personnel who adapt to future, manage high-tech knowledge about electronics information and have solid theoretical foundation and strong ability of research. 
Objectives and ideas
Electronic information technology is not only the fastest growing technology since 20th century, but also the pillar industry in 21th century, the era of knowledge economy. The development in IT field is rather unpredictable. We are in an era of knowledge explosion. As a department cultivating personnel of electronics information technology in NJU, our students’ training objectives should not only reflect the multidisciplinary and rapid development high-tech features of electronic information technology, but also reflect that NJU is a science comprehensive university with meta-discipline, mellow style of study and solid foundation. 
For this reason and combined with the overall framework of  three-three system  educational reform, our undergraduate training objectives are to train scientific research academic personnel and applied personnel who meet the need for national scientific and economic development, face the future, manage high-tech knowledge about electronics information, have solid theoretical foundation and strong abilities of research and application, develop in a balanced way and have good humanistic quality. In another word, we cultivate students’ research capabilities, comprehensive ability, innovative ability and teamwork spirit. 
Through undergraduate studies, the students are expected to have good quality and manage high-tech knowledge about electronics information; have solid foundation of mathematics and physics, broad scientific perspective, independent research ability, strong sense of innovation and a certain ability to innovate; be able to meet the need for national scientific career, teaching career and economic construction and become the senior professional innovative talents in terms of electronics information and engineering. 
Overview
1.  Three-three system  educational reform
In order to carry out the  three-three system  educational reform to achieve three training stages ( general training  ,  professional training  ,  multiple training ) and three kind of development paths ( professional academic class  ,   crossing compound class  ,  employment and entrepreneurship class ) , the school adjusts its curriculum, currently including general and required courses, professional courses and open optional courses. The adjustment focuses on integrating courses of basic theories, strengthening courses of innovative practice and , offering courses of employment and entrepreneurship, to help our students not only gain good professional knowledge, but also have more rights to select their courses, their majors and their development paths. 
2. Construction of excellent engineers plan
To take the new industrialized road with Chinese characteristics, we strength the idea to train personnel with enterprises; to construct a innovative country, we set up a system for engineering technique personnel training; to construct a strong country with human resources, we actively promote the optimization and upgrading of personnel training mode. According to the general idea of MOE  excellent engineer training program  , with the quality teaching resources in our school and the characteristics of the enterprises, we actively promote the practical teaching to cultivate high-quality professionals with strong ability of engineering practice, strong ability of innovation and strong international competence. 
3. Construction of multilevel integrated experimental teaching system
Relying on the teaching and research resources in our school, we established a multilevel integrated experimental teaching system with curricular experiment, open experiment, innovative experiment and frontier experiment. The  multilevel  means that the experiments are dividing into curricular experiment, open experiment, innovative experiment and frontier experiment. The  integrated  means a training system combining school experiments, race training and after-school practices. We strictly follow  basic requirements, improve training and scientific research  to train students in their level. Additionally, we change the traditional experimental teaching method into a new one which serves students as a center, to inspire students’ creative thought and independent learning ways. 
In the past three years, we offered over 20 integrated, designed or open experiments, 7 frontier experiments, annually almost 10 innovative experiments, annually over 20 students’ independent proposed experiments. Up to now, we have gain 6 first prizes and 8 second prizes of National Electronic Design Contest, 1 first prize of International Mathematical Modeling Contest, 1 second prize of  Challenge Cup  National Collegiate Business Plan Competition, 5 National College Students Innovation plan training programs, 1 first prize , 1 second prize and 1 third prize of provincial graduation design paper. Moreover, our undergraduates have published over 30 papers and applied 15 invention patents. 
Undergraduate curriculum system of the school
1.  Electronic Information Science and Technology
(1)General and required courses: this section includes general courses and required courses and at least 59 credits are required. The general part takes into account all general courses in NJU and requires at least 14 credits, while the required part includes English, mathematics, ideology and polity, sports and military (totally 45 credits) . 
(2) Subject professional courses: this section includes subject-platform courses and professional core courses and 53 credits are required. 
(3)open optional courses: this section includes specialized electives, multidisciplinary electives, employment and entrepreneurship courses and public electives and at least 30 credits are required. 
(4) Graduation thesis / Graduation project: 8 credits. 
2. Communication Engineering   
(1)General and required courses: this section includes general courses and required courses and at least 59 credits are required. The general part takes into account all general courses in NJU and requires at least 14 credits, while the required part includes English, mathematics, ideology and polity, sports and military (totally 45 credits) . 
(2)Subject professional courses: this section includes subject-platform courses and professional core courses and 57 credits are required. 
(3)open optional courses: this section includes specialized electives, multidisciplinary electives, employment and entrepreneurship courses and public electives and at least 26 credits are required. 
(4) Graduation thesis / Graduation project: 8 credits. 
3. Microelectronics 
(1)General and required courses: this section includes general courses and required courses and at least 59 credits are required. The general part takes into account all general courses in NJU and requires at least 14 credits, while the required part includes English, mathematics, ideology and polity, sports and military (totally 45 credits) . 
(2) Subject professional courses: this section includes subject-platform courses and professional core courses and 54 credits are required. 
(3)open optional courses: this section includes specialized electives, multidisciplinary electives, employment and entrepreneurship courses and public electives and at least 29 credits are required. 
(4) Graduation thesis / Graduation project: 8 credits. 
4. Biomedical Engineering 
(1)General and required courses: this section includes general courses and required courses and at least 59 credits are required. The general part takes into account all general courses in NJU and requires at least 14 credits, while the required part includes English, mathematics, ideology and polity, sports and military(totally 45 credits) .
(2) Subject professional courses: this section includes subject-platform courses and professional core courses and 42 credits are required. 
(3)open optional courses: this section includes specialized electives(include elective modules 1), multidisciplinary electives, employment and entrepreneurship courses and public electives and at least 41 credits are required. 
(4) Graduation thesis / Graduation project: 8 credits. 

Excellent engineer class:
students of excellent engineer class can take the courses of excellent class, and the credits they get are taken into account in open electives. 
Requirement to gradate and get a degree
The normal length of the undergraduate program is four years. Before graduation, the students should follow the requirement to finish all general and required courses, subject-platform courses and professional core courses, get at least 150 credits and pass the thesis defense.
